Christmas Around the World

Today our boys and girls boarded planes with passports in hand and took off on an adventure of Christmas Around the World!  We had fun visiting the other Pre-K and Kindergarten classes as we learned about other countries and how they celebrate Christmas.

First, we landed in Mexico! Feliz Navidad!  Mrs. Deborah taught us Christmas carols and shared with us the celebration of the live nativity.

Our next stop was Japan! It was a long flight but it was worth it!  Mrs. Chapman shared with us the Christmas customs of Japan and we made a beautiful Japanese fan.

Next, we were off to Germany! Mrs. Kitchens read to us The Legend of the Candy Cane.  We got to eat a candy cane while she read!  Did you know that the candy cane is shaped like a shepards crook or, if you turn it upside down, it is a J for Jesus?

Our last stop was to the Land Down Under, Australia!  Mrs. Allen showed us how Australia is all the way around the world from America.  The coolest thing is that Austalia is having SUMMER during Christmas.  Families go to the beach and build sandmen instead of snowmen!!!  Even Santa likes to surf at Christmas!  We also sang Carols by Candlelight, a great Australian tradition.  Wow, what an adventure we had today!  It was fun to travel and celebrate Christmas all around the world!

Mr. C and his Colossal Cap

Mr. C has come to visit this week.  He is shy so he covers himself completely with his colossal cap. This week we will continue with a Christmas unit and we will focus on the real reason for the season - Christ!

I know several of you have asked about the letter songs for each week.  I am using havefunteaching on YouTube.  If you want to look up any of our songs you just type havefunteaching in the YouTube search engine along with the letter you are searching.  The children are really enjoying these songs and they are great reinforcements, not only the recognition of the letter, but also the sound it makes.

Horray for Grandparents!

We had a wonderful time with our grandparents today!  Wow, what a fabulous turn out!  The boys and girls were so excited to have their grandparents take a tour of our classroom.  We had each grandparent write a special note in their journal ( you will get these journals at the end of the year as a keepsake from Pre-K)!  Thank you for a great day and enjoy your weekend!

Letter Ii

Ii is a vowel, a letter in the alphabet!

Mr. Ii has arrived on campus to help us learn all about Indians just in time for Thanksgiving!  We have been writing like indians; decorating and beating drums;  making indian headresses and vests;  pretending to hunt like an indian; building a fire and sitting in a teepee...the list goes on and on!
We know that Ii is a vowel and makes two sounds - the long and short sound.
We have also have been listening to Mr. Ii who is teaching us about measuring with inches!
What an INCREDIBLE week!

Ms. A says Achoo!

This week Ms. A has come to town to teach us all about her letter and the sounds she makes.  We learned that Aa is a vowel and can make 2 sounds ( the long and short A sound)! We remember the short A sound when Ms. A sneezes and says Aaaa'choo!  Then long A sound is easy to remember because A just says it's name like in acorn.   The boys and girls have really enjoyed listening to books about Johnny Appleseed.  On Friday, we will sort, graph, count, and taste apples that the children bring to school.
Here is the link to listen to our awesome Aa song - Aa is a Vowel!

Happy Birthday, Sara Rhett!

Sara Rhett is 5 years old today!
We are so glad we got to celebrate with her on her special day!

Field Trip to Bolingreen Nursing Home

Our boys and girls had a great time visiting with the residents at Bolingreen today.  We excercised, sang songs, trick or treated, and then had pizza on the patio.  It was a blessing to see the residents faces light up with joy as they visited with the children! Here are a few pictures...

Character Day at TSA!

We had so much fun dressing up as our favorite character today! Take a look and see if you recognize any of these!
